A-1 Guaranteed does not provide duct cleaning because we have found that duct cleaning is unnecessary and, in some instances, can cause more harm than good. Some duct cleaning equipment will actually knock around inside your ducts, resulting in damage to your system. Studies have found that it is unlikely that duct cleaning is necessary for your home, making it an unnecessary expense to homeowners.
The United States Environmental Protection Agency actually states that no studies have found that dirty ducts lead to increased particle (dust) levels in the home and that duct cleaning is not proven to prevent health problems. The EPA recommends that air ducts are not cleaned routinely but only as needed. The EPA states the following are cases where duct cleaning should be considered:
- “There is substantial visible mold growth inside hard surface (e.g., sheet metal) ducts or on other components of your heating and cooling system.
- “Ducts are infested with vermin, e.g. (rodents or insects); or
- “Ducts are clogged with excessive amounts of dust and debris and/or particles are actually released into the home from your supply registers.”

If you do have duct cleaning done, please be cautious when selecting a company to do so. Unfortunately, not only could your ductwork be damaged by the cleaning equipment, but, as seen in the news segment below, the company also might only be cleaning a very small portion of your ductwork while charging you the full price – or more.
Instead of having duct cleaning done, we recommend that you have your ductwork inspected for separations or tears. Give us a call for more information at (707) 645-0734.
